Flying at Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB)

Aviation & Flying Jul 29, 2022

This experience was just amazing for lack of other terms. After my last flight, I researched flight schools and what it would take to become a pilot. My dad helped me find what schools made sense for me and we sent some emails. Before I knew it - me and my dad (in the back seat) flew CVG-MCO on Frontier for a weekend to visit the L3Harris Flight Academy at SFB. We learned a lot, asked a lot of questions, and flew a Piper Seminole PA28. This time I was in control for the majority of the flight, with the instructor mostly navigating since he knew the area much better than I. After the instructor communicated with Air Traffic Control (ATC) and navigated the taxiways, I took off with minimal assistance. While in the air for about an hour, we practiced steep turns and even a touch and go! For those not familiar - a "touch and go" is where you land at an airport without stopping and then lift off quickly after on the same runway all in one go. This was my first time landing (almost) entirely by myself! Such a great experience at L3Harris.

The last picture (below) is in the captain's seat of an Airbus A321, which we flew on our trip back home to CVG. Special thanks to the captain for this picture!
