Starting a New Job!

Business & Career Sep 20, 2023

I'm very grateful for the opportunities I've had already, and this one is no different. I'm excited to share my new adventures at Amazon Web Services (AWS)!

Some background on AWS and the role I've accepted - Amazon Web Services is a global service provider for cloud server infrastructure. That's a lot of big words. Basically - millions of businesses around the world rely on AWS to run their apps, websites, email systems, and more. Even big name companies like Salesforce, McDonald's, and Netflix. AWS has been around since 2002 when they launched their web services division, and their cloud computing division started in 2006. Now, they bring in about $80B in revenue annually and employ over 100k people. Additionally - about 1/3 of the global internet traffic runs through the AWS network.

My job at AWS will be in datacenter operations, where I'll be working on the actual hardware that makes everything work. From repairing and replacing components, to upgrading and expanding datacenter racks and more. I'm extremely excited for this change and it means a lot to me to have the opportunity. I see a lot of future opportunities within AWS as well.

Now for the rest. This new job means moving out of my parents' house, which is also a big deal for me but it's time. I'll be relocating to the greater Columbus area which is thankfully not far from my family in Cincinnati. This does mean a great deal of change, but I can't say no to a job because there's a lot going on - that's just not acceptable to me.

I look forward to moving out soon and sharing another update in the weeks to come! Though, sadly, moving forward I will not be able to share the location of the datacenter, or likely any pictures inside the facility either for security reasons.

Lastly - I'd like to thank my friends at Total Quality Logistics who encouraged me, laughed with me, and made TQL a great place to work even when we all know it had it's moments (and so does every job!). I learned a lot and made many memories and connections at TQL and I would still recommend it as a place to work for any hard-worker who's looking.

Goodbye, TQL. - Photo I took from the roof of the HQ building.
